Hanoi Opera House is now well-known as an icon of the city, which is located in the prime corner of the 1,000-year capital, a 400-meter away from the Hoan Kiem Lake.
The construction had been launched in 1901 by the french and was undertaken in the period of 10 years. 100 years ago this place is a swam but by the time it was converted into a modern corner of the city, which draws millions visitors each year. Trees were taken down for opening roads, small cottages were wipe out to form hotels and modern shopping centers. An unused area became the most thriving center in both Hanoi and Vietnam.
The Opera House is striking with white columns and yellow stroke, following the Ionic style that can be realized easily by the scroll-shaped ornaments and the stacked disk basis. In architecture we call it the Ionic Order, one of the five classical orders.
The construction was built in a rectangular land with the width of roughly 30 meters, the length of 87 meters.
As it name, the main purpose of this building is to hold some large and important culture activities of the city as well as the country. Furthermore, The Opera House even possesses some conference room, meeting room, that will serve as a solem place for signing the agreement between Vietnam's Government with other countries.
